Courage

There is courage in the small step;

“Courage is doing what you’re afraid to do.
There can be no courage unless you’re scared.”

There is nothing more important in building your own business than courage.

 It takes courage to decide that you want a better life.
 It takes courage to decide what your WHY is, what you really want from life.
 It takes courage to make that phone call.

If you’re scared that’s normal, we have all been afraid, welcome to real life.

I want to congratulate you on your courage in stepping down a new road in your own business.

“Courage is doing what you’re afraid to do”.

Your head?

Every step starts in your head.

Behind every step is a thought. Every step is first a thought. You think about a friend you used to work with and say to yourself “I think I’ll call Bob”.

What happens when you have a thought like this? It attracts other thoughts just like it. “Hey, Bob’s good friend Ed might like this, and I think that Bob’s wife is very big on health, I’ll give Bob one for his wife as well.”

Every step starts in your head.

Your mind!

Whatever step is going on in your mind you are attracting into your life.

Your mind is an incredible tool. It is more powerful than the most powerful computer in the world and it is yours, all yours to use as you see fit.

I was always amazed by Napolean Hills statement that “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve”.

How do you direct your thoughts?
What do you think about most of the time?
What is your very first thought when you wake up every morning?

What do you think about most of the time?

Take it!

“Take the step and you’ll have the power.”

I borrowed this from one of my favorite affirmations, “I do the thing and I have the power.”

This is another great affirmation. How do you learn this business of network marketing? How do you become a good network marketer? How do you become a leader?

The secret is in the doing. It is only by doing it, taking the steps, making those calls, getting out your CD’s, doing 3ways with your prospect and your up-line on the line that you learn how to do this wonderful business.

Do the thing, take the step and you will have the power.

What door?

WHAT DOOR?

Behind what door does the next step on the path to your wildest dreams lay?

As I said yesterday it never lies behind the doors marked, “FREE”, “GIANT STEP”, “GUARANTEE”, "WOW," "SEXY," or "GLAMOROUS."

It lies behind a door marked ‘SIMPLE’ ‘EASY’.

Steps to success in our business of network marketing are as simple, as easy as talking to a friend, handing out a tool, visiting a website with a friend and following up.

Be careful! ‘Easy to do’ is just as easy ‘not to do’.

NO???

Every ‘no’ is a step up.

“No” is a word you will hear frequently as you pursue your dream. “No” comes in different sizes, colors and sounds. Sometimes they are soft, “no, it’s just not for me”.
Sometimes they are harsh, “are you out of your mind? Network marketing don’t you know it’s a scam?” Sometimes they sound so intelligent, “well if this product is as good as you say it is, why don’t they sell it at Walmart?”

Sometimes “no” simply means not now. Sometimes “no” means I don’t “know” enough.

There is magic in every “no”. What is the magic in “no”?

Every “no” leads to a “yes”. If you tell enough people your story you will find the “yes”. Those “yes’s” are there and you will find them when you keep searching.

In my years in network marketing I have heard “no” thousands of times but the “yes’s” I’ve heard make it all worthwhile.

Go out there and collect those “no’s” because you know that every “no” is a step up, a step towards a “yes”.

“I am the master of the small step.”

This is a wonderful affirmation. Why?

Because greatness is in the moment.

Greatness is in the moment of decision.
The small steps you must take to the top of the mountain are easy steps. Success is made up of thousands of small seemingly insignificant steps.

Small, small, steps and they will take you to your goals.

One small step

Small Steps Two Stairways

It's easy, so easy to take those small steps.

What if you don’t take that step? What will happen? Nothing!
Nothing good and nothing bad except a missed opportunity to change a life.

Our business is full of amazing stories of lives changed.

Our business is full of amazing stories of DVD’s, CD's, books, phone calls, conference calls and conversations that brought in the biggest names in the business.

Would you have spoken to a maintenance manager living in a trailer park who had such a painfully low esteem that he would avoid saying hello unless you spoke first?

Whoever took that step changed my life and thousands of lives.

What’s the cost of a missed step?

What staircase? (2)

John, “you talk about that staircase but I just don’t see it. How can I see it? How can I visualize my goals?

Faith always comes first. Taking small steps builds you and your belief. Small steps, everyday, everyday, everyday on the up staircase, toward your dream will take you to success.

The most important small steps are to learn everything you can by being on conference calls, training calls and being at every event.

By far the best way to learn the business is to do the business. Get your upline leader to work with you. The better you do, the better your upline leader will feel.

Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the staircase.

John, “you talk about that staircase but I just don’t see it. How can I see it? How can I visualize my goals?

When I got started I was maintenance manager in a potato chip factory, working 10 hour days, on-call 24/7 and living in a 14 foot trailer in a trailer park. When I was introduced to network marketing I had no idea what I was doing but it felt right so I borrowed $5000 and jumped in with both feet. I began to take small steps part time everyday to build my business.

After a few months of some success I saw a dream. If I could earn just $3000 a month and be in my own business I would not know what to do with all that money.

Which stairway?

Imagine two stairways; one stairway up and one stairway down.

Now imagine that the steps on both stairways are very, very small steps,
not the normal six inch step but small, small one-quarter inch steps. In
fact the steps are so very, very small that it's hard to even see the slope
up or the slope down.

You may not see the slope but know this, one stairway will take you to the
top and one stairway will take you nowhere.

One stairway takes you closer to your goals with every small step.

The other stairway takes you further from your goals with every small step.

Why was my life never the same again?

The rest of the story.

After Zig told that story I knew that I would never be the same again. I left that auditorium knowing that I could be more than a maintenance manager, more than someone afraid of his shadow, more than someone whose self-esteem was so low that I would not lift up my head to say hello unless you said hello first.

After that talk I was never the same again. That was the small step that changed my life.

We have all been flea trained.

How can a story change a life?

How did this step change my life?

As I mentioned in the last step I went to hear Zig Ziglar speak despite the ridicule of my friends. Zig held up a jar of fleas and said that he was the world’s champion flee trainer. He went on the explain that if you put fleas in a jar they would jump and jump and jump always hitting their heads on the top of the jar. Eventually they would get tired of hitting their heads and they would jump just high enough not to bump their heads. You could take the lid off the jar and they would never jump out.

The purpose of the illustration is to show that we have been flea trained to believe that we cannot get out of the jar. We can’t get a better job. We can’t start our own company. We can’t make it on our own? The failure rate is so high. You won’t make it. We can’t, we can’t, we can’t. You can’t, you can’t, you can’t.

Come back tomorrow for the rest of the story.

The rest of the story:

That's what this series is all about. It's about taking small steps to success. There is no quantum leap to success, no sudden breakthrough, you don't wake up one morning and there you are a success. Success is a series of small steps taken everyday, everyday, everyday.

Success “Is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.” It’s progressive, one step at a time, one small step at a time.

The step is the solution
When I first got started in network marketing selling water filters I met Jeff. Jeff had a very simple answer to every problem. “Talk to more people.”
If you went to Jeff and said “Jeff our product is too expensive”, Jeff would say, “talk to more people.”
If you went to Jeff and said “Jeff I’m not making any money: Jeff would say, “talk to more people.”
If you went to Jeff and said “Jeff I have a problem with our company: Jeff would say, “talk to more people.”

“John I get a lot of ‘not interested’ when I hand out a CD or talk to someone about my business. What am I doing wrong?”

The answer is ‘nothing’. You’re doing the right thing. Every no leads to a yes. So much of our business depends on timing. If you ask someone to listen and they’re doing well they may say ‘no’. Ask that some person when their circumstances change and suddenly they are interested. Just keep asking.

For everything we do there is always a cost. What will it cost me to pursue my dream?

The first thing to remember is that the cost of pursuing your dream is far less than the cost of letting your dream die. The price of neglect is far greater than the price of discipline. The price of failure, of letting go, is much greater than the price of persistence. The saddest words in life are “if only”. “If only I had pursued my dream, if only I held my vision, if only ……..”

Every step is a leap of faith

Sometimes your only available transportation is a leap of faith.
- Margaret Shepherd

Every small step is a step of faith and you never know where that step will lead.

Success is taking one step after another

Success is taking one step after another.

Earl Nightingale said that “success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal or goal”. Notice that he said the progressive realization. Progressive tells me that it is a process; it does not come all at once in some great quantum leap.

Success is progressive, it comes one step at a time. The philosophy you will hear about in this series is the Small Step Philosophy, small steps that will take you to the top.

You will soon see that every one of these steps is easy, easy to take but here’s the catch they are also easy NOT to take.

Success, the choice always is yours.

Using feel felt found to overcome objections

This is a 1:22 minute video on using feel felt found to overcome the objection "I don't believe in Network Marketing".

Thia is the first in a series of short videos addressing frequent objections.

Small Steps to the TOP

FIRST STEPS: IT LOOKS SO FAR!

You may be thinking, “John the Top of the Mountain that you always talk about seems so far.” Of course the top of the mountain looks so far when you’re just getting started and looking up. When I got started in network marketing I thought that if I could just earn $3000 a month I would have it made.

Dream, visualize, imagine yourself at the top of your mountain and then take the first step. No matter how high the mountain the only way to get there is by taking one small step at a time.

That’s why the Small Step Philosophy is so important.

Think about it!
It’s the only way to the top.
